Egyptology: from imaginary to the study of Antiquity

Egyptology is the only orientalist discipline in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It is a major asset for the study of Antiquity. It also facilitates the transmission of values: understanding the Oriental world through a prestigious ancient culture, while fostering a spirit of tolerance. Courses at the University of Fribourg include political, cultural, and religious history from the Predynastic to the Greco-Roman period, covering topics such as civilisation, institutions, monuments, medicine, magic, animals (among others), in addition to the hieroglyphic Egyptian language. The courses also draw on the collections of the Bible+Orient Museum.
