When the past invites to travel...

"Questioning the societies of the past is first and foremost the pleasure of investigation, of the discovery of unpublished documents, which invite us to see the world with other glasses. History is a precious tool for analysing the processes that shape our collective life. It sheds light on the problems of the present by revealing the assumptions on which they are based. It sharpens critical thinking and distance".

This short introduction from our Contemporary History Department highlights the importance of the historical sciences for our societies, as well as the work done by historians. For their research, our historians need access to sources, to archives. For some of our historians, access to sources means travelling abroad.

With your support, the University of Fribourg Foundation is committed to supporting scholarships for students and young researchers who have been identified as among the most committed and talented. These scholarships will enable three students to travel to Japan, Chile and Canada, for research in the fields of economic history (Japan), the history of Swiss emigration (Latin America) and the history of the French-speaking world (Canada).
