Sign language course for medical students
A large number of deaf or hard-of-hearing patients still face significant barriers in accessing healthcare, mainly due to a lack of skills in adapted communication. In this context, the Institute of Family Medicine (IMF) aims to introduce sign language courses for our medical students. The goal is to enable them to acquire a valuable and essential skill for their future practice, thereby promoting more inclusive medicine.
This project addresses the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing patients as well as healthcare professionals. The courses will provide an introduction to sign language directly linked to common clinical situations, in order to foster more effective communication and appropriate medical care.
This initiative thus contributes to improving equitable access to healthcare services for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
