Egyptology: from imaginary to the study of Antiquity
The project
Egyptology is the only orientalist teaching in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It is a major asset for the sciences of Antiquity. It also allows the transmission of values: an understanding of the oriental world through a prestigious ancient culture, while developing a spirit of tolerance. Courses at the University of Fribourg include political, cultural and religious history from the Predynastic to the Greco-Roman period, on topics as varied as civilisation, institutions, monuments, medicine, magic, animals (among others), in addition to the hieroglyphic Egyptian language. They also benefit from the collections of the Bible+Orient Museum.
The commitment of the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art
Supporting Egyptology at the University of Fribourg, so that it can fully take part in the international promotion of secular Egyptian culture, through new research and the development of interdisciplinary and bilingual collaborative projects (Faculty of Theology, University of Bern, Bible+Orient Museum, etc.), while at the same time opening up to the general public and the media.
Thanks to
The Fondation Gandur pour l'Art, for the support towards the teaching of Egyptology at the University of Fribourg.
